Chapter Eight
After staying in Philadelphia for a while, Alvin comes back to visit the Roth family with his fiancee named Minna Schapp. She was with Alvin not only as his love but as someone who constantly cared for him especially because of his leg. Minna was a 31 year old woman (older than Alvin) who was shy and never really talked because of her babyish voice. The family would talk about how Walter Winchell could have fixed America if he was still alive and if he was ever to be elected until Alvin and Herman get into a fist fight about not just Winchell but about the Jews. Herman supported the Jews and was against the Lindbergh administration while Alvin regreted helping the Jews for losing his leg to fight Hitler. With Phillip already worried about the riots in cities such around the nation, Phillip just saw fighting in his own house which means that since America is being affected by what's going on in Washington, the Roth's are even being more pulled apart by not just the fist fight but their own beliefs. Shortly after the fight, Mr. Cucuzza offered Herman a gun (Mr. Cucuzza shot Alvin which ended the fight) and this time Herman would say yes to keeping the gun. Meanwhile with the problems around America, more than 30,000 mourners go to Walter Winchell's funeral and people such as New York mayor La Guardia and former president Franklin D. Roosevelt attended the funeral. However as the funeral was going on, President Lindbergh did not show up. Lindbergh instead was last seen flying his plane somewhere form Louisville. To temporary replace Lindbergh, Vice President Burton K.Wheeler performs as acting president. He calls for a massive search for the President. The U.S. then closes it's borders with Canada and Mexico. It was later found out that Lindbergh went missing because of the Jews. Wheeler also tells Canadian Prime Minister Mackenzie King to search within Canada for Lindbergh. On October 12th, 1942 the British intelligence agency reports that Lindbergh was alive in Berlin with the Jews suspecting that he was with the Nazi's since he was nominated as president. On October 15th 1942, Rabbi Lionel Bengelsdorf was arrested due to a "Jewish plot against Lindbergh." President Wheeler was then about to declare war on Canada while the Germans were about to take Mexico. Lindbergh's wife had enough of Wheeler's actions as president and called congress to impeach him. Shortly after Mrs Lindbergh's speech, the Democrats control Congress and Frankllin D. Roosevelt is president once again. Even though the problem with Washington D.C. had been now solved, the chaos around America had only begun.
Burton Wheeler served as a Democrat senator from Montana from 1923 to 1947
